2011 Toyota Venza

Specifications prices Modifications and Image 2011 Toyota Venza
Its a wagon. Its a crossover. It has cartoony 19-inch dubs, yet has a ride your grandmother would like and a name shed confuse with a drug she saw advertised during Jeopardy! The 2011 Toyota Venza is a strange creation, one rife with contradictions and difficult to properly define. There is one thing were sure of, though; it makes a great family vehicle.
The Venza has the basic body dimensions and interior space of a midsize crossover SUV -- think Ford Edge or Nissan Murano -- but with one significant exception: The Venza is nearly 4 inches shorter in height than its rivals, and technically this puts it in the same camp as a wagon, not a crossover. Its wagon-style dimensions also make the Venza feel more like a car from behind the wheel compared to Toyota crossovers like the Highlander and RAV4, although we certainly wouldnt call it athletic. Instead, like other Toyotas, the Venza puts an emphasis on comfort and ease of driving.
The Venzas strange body style isnt the only thing that stands out, however. Unlike with most midsize crossovers, the Venza features a four-cylinder base engine. This provides sufficient power, but given that the bigger V6 achieves similar fuel economy, it would be foolhardy to not at least consider shelling out a few more bucks for the big engine. This is one of the best -- and possibly the top -- V6s in the crossover class. If that werent incentive enough, going with the V6 gets you even bigger, 20-inch wheels.
In the front cabin, the Venza is filled with a variety of innovative storage solutions. By placing the shift lever up high on the center console, space opens up for several storage bins. You dont get the same sort of versatility in back as you would in the more utilitarian RAV4, though. The Venzas rear seat doesnt slide, its not split three ways and theres no option for a third row. The backseat does recline, but thats common among its competitors.
That might be nitpicking, as would complaining that interior-materials quality doesnt quite live up to the standards of the class best. Certainly, the 2011 Toyota Venza is a strong contender whether youre in the market for a wagon like the Subaru Outback or a midsize crossover like the Edge, Murano and Chevy Equinox. The Venza is also a more likable and stylish choice than the similarly conceived Honda Accord Crosstour. When a vehicle is such an indefinable oddity, its bound to draw comparisons to such a diverse range of vehicles, but against them all, the Toyota Venza stands tall on its big wheels.
 INTERIOR
The Venzas two rows of seats can be finished in cloth or leather. The 60/40-split rear bench seat features reclining backrests, and the sections can be folded using levers in the cargo area. Interior features include:
  • Standard dual-zone automatic air conditioning
  • Standard six-CD changer
  • Standard cruise control
  • Standard tilt/telescoping multifunction steering wheel
  • Optional navigation system
  • Optional backseat entertainment system

EXTERIOR
Despite its practical hatchback body style, the Venza manages to look rather stylish in person. Credit the cars proportions and interesting rear styling, which features swoopy taillights. The front of the Venza is defined by a large grille that could easily be at home on an SUV. Exterior features include:
  • 19-inch wheels standard
  • 20-inch wheels optional
  • Optional two-piece glass roof
  • Optional power liftgate

 ENGINE
The 2011 Toyota Venza gets the electronic brake override but is otherwise a mechanical rerun of the 2010 Venza.
About 50 percent of Venzas are ordered with the four-cylinder engine, a 2.7-liter that continues rated at 182 horsepower and 182 pound-feet of torque (consider torque the secret sauce of acceleration and horsepower the prime ingredient in momentum). Availability of a four-cylinder engine in a midsize crossover is a relatively recent development, though it’s becoming a trend as automakers seek to maximize fuel economy. The leading edge of the trend is turbocharged four-cylinder engines of around 2.0-liters. They provide the gas mileage of a four-cylinder with the power of a small V-6 – though at an initial purchase price equivalent to that of a V-6. Venza’s four-cylinder relies on a relatively large displacement to furnish power and torque in the upper range for non-turbo engines its size.
The 2011 Toyota Venza’s available V-6 is a 3.5-liter again rated at 268 horsepower and 248 pound-feet of torque; both are fine numbers for engines this size.
Both Venza engines again mate with one transmission, a fully contemporary six-speed automatic. The gear lever sprouts from the dashboard just right of the steering wheel and can be moved within a separate gate for manual-type shifting. That gives the driver additional control to, for example, harness engine braking in hilly terrain or sharpen throttle response in urban freeway traffic.
Venzas with either engine are available with front-wheel or extra-cost all-wheel-drive (AWD). Venza isn’t intended for off-roading, so the AWD’s main role is to automatically redistribute power front-to-rear to maintain traction on slippery road surfaces. An antiskid system, also known as stability control, is standard and is designed to prevent sideways slides. An optional towing package allows Venza to trailer up to 3,500 pounds, same as most light-duty SUVs.
Venza is by no means a small or lightweight wagon, but the four-cylinder is surprisingly game, furnishing good go around town and adequate punch for hills and highways. The V-6 provides fine all-around performance and is in fact sufficiently muscular that you’ll find AWD a useful antidote to the torque-steer veering that afflicts powerful front-drive vehicles during rapid acceleration from low speeds.
Venzas with the four-cylinder engine come with 19-inch alloy wheels and those with the V-6 have 20s; this was the first Toyota of any sort with wheels that large. In either form, the 2011 Venza corners with reasonable poise. Its steering can feel annoyingly slow, numb, and unnatural in turns, though, oddly, these negatives seem to affect V-6 models more than four-cylinder versions. Sadly, the big wheels and tires that help give Venza its street cred detract from the ride quality, no matter the engine. Nasty bumps thump, sharp tar strips jar, and road noise infiltrates the cabin.
As for Venza’s connection to the sudden-acceleration controversy, model-year 2009 and 2010 Venzas were among Toyotas recalled for a replacement driver-side floormat that wouldn’t interfere with the gas pedal. Venza was not among Toyotas sited for a sticking gas pedal. The automaker did, however, include 2009-2010 Venzas among its first cars recalled to retrofit an electronic system that enables brake-pedal application to override the accelerator.
All model-year 2011 Venzas have the brake-override system and it’s bundled with several other features as part of a marketing effort Toyota calls the Star Safety System. Star Safety  also includes the antiskid system as well as traction control for better grip off the line, antilock brakes for more secure stops, and brake assist that automatically applies full stopping power in emergencies even if the driver fails to apply full bake-pedal pressure.
 SAFETY
Every 2011 Toyota Venza comes standard with four-wheel antilock disc brakes, stability and traction control, front-seat side airbags, side curtain airbags, a driver knee airbag and front-seat active head restraints. In Edmunds brake testing, the Venza came to a stop from 60 mph in 122 feet regardless of engine.
The Venza has not been rated using the governments new, more strenuous 2011 crash-testing procedures. Its 2010 rating (which isnt comparable to 2011 ratings) was a perfect five stars in all frontal- and side-impact tests. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gave the Venza its highest rating of "Good" in the frontal-offset, side and roof strength tests.

Toyota Auris Touring Sports Test

Toyotas new Toyota Auris Hybrid Sports Touring , Toyotas pioneering solution for the segment C since we introduced the first full hybrid wagon full hybrid .Awesome card for this vehicle yes, but what about when battling one of its more than likely destinations.

The Toyota Auris Hybrid Sports Touring burden with us, and with our circumstances. Its amazing the amount and type of things that can go through the trunk of a family car, some even settle to live there indefinitely. The trunk of the Auris Touring Sports, with 530 liters of capacity is a performance by size and by the details that allow easily exploit.

But the thing is not there, the trunk holds many more gadgets like the partition net integrated the roller blind with two clamping levels or both storage areas under the floor. In the proposed folding the seats my diligent little helpers went to press the buttons on the rear seatback. Quickly gave them high to tell the One Touch system - Easy Flat allowing both sides of the seat folded at the flick of their respective levers accessible from the trunk.

The Toyota Auris Hybrid Sports Touring, habitability. Comes time to leave, reluctantly, trunk and all pass inside to see how the hospital is inside Auring Sports Touring . Of course the first thing is to explain to the innocent infants are actually sitting on a huge pile, the batteries are housed under the rear seats , again faces a look of astonishment and disbelief.

The materials are quality and feel is of robustness . Lots of holes and compartments allow children to keep their stuff in front found room for phones and wallets and incuse smoothly for the big bottle of water, for some reason with us.

The family compact concept may sound like a contradiction, but nothing is further from reality. The interior space in the Auris is very good and in the case of Sports Touring Auring grows a couple of inches of leg room in the rear seats. With the seats already set, and Im not exactly low, the four went really comfortable . Fifth place is perfectly playable even without gaps. The seats seem comfortable as confirmed demanding rear passengers.

2014 Toyota Tundra

Toyota Motor Sales (TMS), U.S.A., Inc., unveiled the redesigned 2014 Toyota Tundra full-size pickup truck at a press conference at the 2013 Chicago Auto Show.

Tundra has been a quality leader with Toyotas DNA of quality, dependability and reliability. The industry has recognized Toyota Tundra with a myriad of awards over the last 12 years, including winning the J.D. Power Vehicle Dependability Study for seven years running in the Full-Size Pick Up segment. Not resting on its laurels, the 2014 Tundra will be redesigned, inside and out, representing the first major change since the launch of the current generation for the 2007 model year.

2014 Toyota Tundra

The redesigned Toyota Tundra continues to be a truck with true American roots that was once again engineered by Toyota Technical Center in Ann Arbor, Mich., and its new look designed by Calty Design Research centers in Newport Beach, Calif., and Ann Arbor. Finally, Tundra continues to be assembled exclusively at Toyota Motor Manufacturing, in San Antonio, Texas.

"Toyota prides itself on listening to its customers and the development of the 2014 American-born Tundra is a perfect example," said Bill Fay, group vice president and general manager, Toyota Division. "Tundras new exterior design and all-new interior were inspired by customer feedback requesting a more chiseled exterior and refined interior with improved driver ergonomics, and easy-to-use technology, giving customers more of what they want instead, in addition to what they need."

The 2014 Toyota Tundra will have a grade strategy consisting of the hard-working SR, volume-leading SR5, the well-appointed Limited, and two premium grades: "Platinum" and the all-new "1794 Edition." The new 1794 Edition is a tribute to the ranch, founded in the year 1794, on which the Tundra plant is located in San Antonio. Toyota Tundra is offered in three cab styles, two-door Regular Cab, four-door Double Cab and four-door CrewMax, all available in 4x2 and 4x4.

Significantly New, Unique Exterior Designs; Distinct Look for Each Grade

Inside and out, each grade embodies a specific theme through distinct designs that go beyond just badging.

The Calty design team set out to create a bold and powerful exterior to embody Toyota Tundras performance capability. The all-new front design integrates the hood and grille for a chiseled and modern industrial image. Designers increased the size of the front fascia and tightened up the surfaces and character lines to punctuate Tundras pulling power and wide stance. The chrome grille has a taller, bolder look visually connecting the upper intake to the lower bumper. The front lower bumpers are now a three-piece design, allowing for grade differentiation and less expensive replacement parts. In addition, the fenders and wheel wells have been squared-off for a wide and sturdy stance.

An all-new bed design helps carry the chiseled character lines all the way down the profile, leading to a rugged new bed and tail gate, with an integrated spoiler and "TUNDRA" stamped into the sheet metal, creating a one-piece forged look. The integrated spoiler in the deck helps with fuel efficiency, while the tail lamps express a tool-like quality to match the appearance of the body. Like the front bumper, the rear bumper changes from one piece to three, for lower replacement costs.

An All-new Spacious Interior; Each Grade With a Unique Identity

Caltys design team worked closely with the product planners and Toyota Tundra engineers to develop an all-new bold interior focusing on styling differentiation between grades and improving the availability of features most important to truck buyers. The all-new interior variations are thematic and cater to a specific customer with a specific budget. Ergonomic improvements include easier driver access to controls as the reach to the audio and HVAC controls was reduced by 2.6 inches. Large knobs have been retained so they can be operated with or without work gloves. Overall passenger comfort was improved with an all-new front and rear (CrewMax) seat design and improved front seat ventilation. In addition, front seats have additional travel, and CrewMax rear seats can now be folded up for additional cargo carrying capability while maintaining a comfortable seating back angle.

The interior has a rugged, interlocked construction with an all-new instrument panel. The meters feature 3-D metallic rings and individual gauges grouped in a clear, easy-to-see design with a center-mounted multi-information display screen. The console design holds multiple storage areas for personal items and electronics plus additional padded surfaces and accent stitching in premium grades. Both Double Cab and CrewMax will be available with a bench or bucket seats for the front row.

The interior of the SR5 features a "professional gear" theme, with unique driver and passenger zones, metallic accents and bold contrasting fabric. Most importantly, the all-new design uses premium surface treatments to enhance interior quality and durability.

The Limited grade has an "active premium" image with leather seating surfaces matching soft-touch stitched door and console surfaces, and wood-style interior trims. The Limited will be available with Black, Sand Beige and Graphite leather-trimmed interiors and will have standard auto HVAC controls.

The Platinum grade has been completely redesigned for the next generation of personal use truckers. It features perforated black leather-trimmed seats with double-stitched diamond plate leather, door and instrument panel inserts, and chrome seat and console accent badging for an upscale yet urban feel. In addition, Platinum uses premium leather never before used on a Toyota truck and comes with many standard amenities, including a 12-speaker JBL audio system with Entune™, heated and ventilated front seats, navigation and Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Cross Traffic Alert.

The 1794 Edition reflects a western lifestyle theme and includes exclusive premium saddle brown leather seating with embossed leather and ultra-suede accents. Matching soft-touch materials also accents the shift console, the front and rear door trim, and the instrument panel. Like the Platinum, the 1794 Edition includes an array of standard features that includes heated and ventilated front seats, JBL audio and Entune, navigation and Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Cross Traffic Alert.

Three Engine Options Remain Among Segments Most Capable

Several enhancements have been implemented on the 2014 Tundra to improve performance. Shock-absorber valving has been re-tuned to improve Toyota Tundra ride quality over harsh surfaces.

Steering feel and straight line stability has been improved due to steering system improvements. These improvements reduce the inputs from road variations and imperfections, resulting in improved straight line stability and less driver fatigue.

Patented aerodynamic stabilizer fins are added to the outside surface of the rear tail lamp lens, and the outside mirror bases. These patented "Aero-Fins" reduce the air turbulence along the sides of the vehicle resulting in improved straight-line stability during normal driving conditions and while towing.

Interior cabin noise is reduced from an improved design of engine compartment NVH treatments and innovative engineering to reduce sound transmission from the engine compartment to the vehicle cabin.

Toyota Tundra continues to offer three proven powertrains. A 4.0-liter Dual Overhead Cam (DOHC) V6 is standard on Tundra Regular and Double Cab models and produces 270 horsepower and 278 lb.-ft. peak torque. It is paired with a five-speed automatic transmission with uphill/downhill shift logic.

The available 4.6-liter DOHC i-Force V8 offers 310 horsepower and 327 lb.-ft. of peak torque, and the 5.7-liter DOHC i-Force V8 produces 381 horsepower and 401 lb.-ft. of peak torque, in both gasoline and "Flex Fuel" variants. Both V8s come standard with a six-speed electronically controlled automatic transmission. All Toyota Tundra engines feature an aluminum cylinder block and DOHC heads, along with Dual Variable Valve Timing with intelligence (VVT-i) for a broad torque curve and optimized efficiency.

The SR and SR5 grades will ride on 18-inch styled steel wheels, while the Limited, Platinum and 1794 Edition will ride on all-new 20-inch alloy wheels specific to each grade.

Toyota Tundra remains the only full-size pickup in the segment to adhere to the SAE J2807 towing standard. When equipped with a tow package, Tundra has a maximum tow capacity of 10,400 pounds (4x2 Regular Cab).

All 2014 Tundras Feature a Number of Segment Firsts

Tundras will feature a number of segment firsts, including a new Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Cross Traffic Alert, a standard back-up camera (viewed from the audio display screen), and standard Bluetooth. Additional standard features include a 3.5-inch multi-information display in the gauge cluster.

The Limited grade adds eight-way power driver seat, standard chrome door handles and outer mirrors, 20-inch alloy wheels and a deck rail system.

The Platinum and 1794 Edition come standard with a 10-way power drivers seat with memory and a four-way power passengers seat, both with heat and ventilation, power moonroof (CrewMax only), parking sonar, and Display Audio with Navigation, Entune and JBL.

Toyotas STAR Safety; Segment First Blind Spot Monitor with Cross Traffic Alert

The 2014 Toyota Tundra will be the first in its segment to be equipped with a standard backup camera on all grades, and the first truck in its segment to offer a Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Cross Traffic Alert (Platinum and 1794 Edition).

All Toyota Tundra models will also feature the standard Toyota Star Safety System™ that includes Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), Traction Control (TRAC), an Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD), Brake Assist (BA), and Smart Stop (SST) brake override technology.

Smart Stop Technology is designed to automatically reduce engine power when both brake and accelerator pedals are pressed at the same time under certain conditions, helping the driver bring the vehicle to a stop.

Toyota Tundra will be equipped with eight standard airbags including front seat-mounted side airbags, and front and rear Roll-sensing Side Curtain Airbags (RSCA) in all models, driver and front outboard passenger airbags with an Advanced Airbag System, and the segments only driver and front outboard passenger knee airbags.

Additional safety features include manual headlamp leveling and standard LED Daytime Running Lights (Platinum and 1794 Edition).

2011 Toyota Prius

Specifications prices Modifications and Image 2011 Toyota Prius
You could be forgiven for thinking the 2011 Toyota Prius has a big target painted on its side. After all, people like to gun for you when youre on top, and the Prius has been the king of the green car sales charts for years now. This year, in particular, there are many new choices for a fuel-efficient car. The question then becomes: Can the Prius keep its mojo going?

The good news for Toyota is that the Prius itself is better than ever. Last year, Toyota engineers reduced the cars aerodynamic drag, and the overall look is now sleeker and sportier. Under the hood, a larger gas engine and stronger electric motor combine for more power and better fuel economy -- the Prius has a combined EPA fuel economy estimate of 50 mpg, the best of any conventional hybrid vehicle. The newest Prius also has revised suspension tuning and improved electric steering to help make it more agile than before.

The 2011 Prius can also seemingly transform from a versatile utility hatchback to a small, hyper-efficient luxury sedan depending on how you equip it. On the higher trim levels, youll find high-end appointments like heated leather seats, a solar-powered sunroof (it ventilates the interior when parked), a navigation system, adaptive cruise control (it matches your speed to the car ahead), a pre-collision system (tightens seatbelts and applies the brakes if a crash is unavoidable) and a lane-departure warning system. Theres even an automated parallel-parking system to help you squeeze into tight downtown parking spaces.

There are some downsides to this latest Prius, however. Most concern the interior, such as too many cheap-feeling plastics, an awkward driving position and the lack of an iPod adapter on most models. If these attributes bother you, youll certainly want to look around. Hondas Insight, also new last year, is the Prius most direct competitor. Its less expensive and drives a bit more like a regular car, but its not as fuel-efficient, it has a smaller backseat and it can seem too noisy and budget-oriented.

You might also check some of the top hybrid sedans, with the Ford Fusion Hybrid being our favorite. It doesnt have the top fuel economy of the Prius, but it looks like a normal sedan and drives with more vigor. The all-new Hyundai Sonata and Kia Optima Hybrid are also worth looking at.

Then there are the two hyped green cars this year, the Chevrolet Volt and Nissan Leaf. The Leaf is 100-percent electrically powered, but its limited range and charging options mean it will be a niche choice. The Volt is probably more appealing -- its basically a plug-in hybrid, giving it theoretically way better fuel economy than the Prius -- but its also considerably more expensive. Toyota is also set to offer a plug-in version of the Prius to counter the Volt.

In sum, we think the 2011 Prius deserves to keep its status as the best all-around hybrid. With strong fuel economy, hatchback utility, a reasonable price and a feature list that can range from economy to luxury, the Prius earns its painted bulls-eye.
INTERIOR
The interior is where the Prius earns its stripes. Specifically, its midsize volume makes the cars mileage all the more impressive, and the hatchback design makes none of the sacrifices of hybrid sedans — the most notable of which is incomplete or absent folding rear seats. The backseat offers adults plenty of room, and parents will want to check out MotherProofs Car Seat Check to see how various child-safety seats fit the Prius. (Anyone who wants almost 60 percent more cargo volume than the Prius should check out the 2012 Toyota Prius V review.)

Though it turns off some shoppers, the high-mounted, center-biased instrument panel is fine by me. If theres a problem with it, its the low-resolution, monochrome nature of the displays. The Volt and hybrid versions of the Ford Fusion, Hyundai Sonata and Kia Optima have high-res color LCDs. The Leaf and Honda hybrids dont have full LCD instrument panels, but at least they incorporate more color.

Storage space is generous, with dual glove compartments, a roomy bin under the armrest and an area to stash a purse under the frontmost section of the center console. Regrettably, this is also the location of the optional heated-seat buttons, out of reach and easily blocked by the aforementioned purse. Theyre also fully on or off — no gradations available.

Perhaps the worst ergonomic foible is the shifter, which bears little resemblance to the conventional type and, more important, degrades its function. The springy thing pops back to center after you select your direction, and you have to seek out an indicator on the instrument panel to know if it worked. Oh, sure, it beeps at you as long as you remain in Reverse, which would make some sense if it did so outside the car, as the Leafs does. Whats it for? To indicate the cars in Reverse? Then how does it indicate youre in Drive or any other setting that doesnt beep?

The Volts conventional approach proves that the shifter never had to be reimagined in the first place. Enough already.
EXTERIOR
The 2011 Toyota Prius styling is unchanged. It remains a highly aerodynamic five-passenger car with a low hood, radically swept-back windshield, arching roofline, and tall tail.

Prius has compact-car exterior dimensions but enough interior room to qualify as a midsize car under federal standards. Its high ceiling creates large doorways and chair-like seating with plenty of head room. Wide front buckets accommodate those who shop the big-and-tall store, though only the optional leather seats, with their adjustable lumbar bolstering, provide good lower-back support. Rear seaters have generous knee and toe space, but the bench isn’t quite wide enough to hold three adults in comfort.

All dashboard gauges are digital and are mounted centrally atop the instrument panel rather than in front of the driver; it takes some getting used to.

The hatchback opening is large and folding the rear seatbacks creates a flat, carpeted surface. But the load floor is rather high, so cargo volume is less than in most similarly sized hatchbacks. A small bin beneath the cargo floor compensates some. Small-items interior storage isn’t generous; only the front doors have map pockets, for example, and they’re really just cup holders.
ENGINE
The 2011 Toyota Prius is powered by a 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine combined with a pair of electric motor/generators; they send their power through a specialized continuously variable transmission (CVT). The result is total output of 134 horsepower.

In track testing, we clocked the Prius from zero to 60 mph in 10.1 seconds, which is about average for a hybrid vehicle. The most important number, however, is fuel economy. The EPA estimates the 2011 Prius will return a very impressive 51 mpg city/48 highway and 50 mpg combined.

The gas engine is a 1.8-liter four-cylinder. Two small electric motors are powered by nickel-metal hydride batteries. Combined output is 134 horsepower. Prius uses a continuously variable transmission, which acts like an automatic transmission but employs infinite ratios rather than preset gearing. Hybrid Synergy Drive uses the engine and regenerative braking to recharge itself; there’s no plug-in capability. With the batteries sufficiently charged, the system can further save gas by automatically shutting off the engine and restarting it while the car is stopped.

Dashboard buttons allow the driver to activate three power modes: EV-Drive to tap battery power alone at low speeds for about a mile; Power for sportier throttle response; and Eco for best mileage. Despite slightly languid acceleration off the line, Prius easily keeps up with fast-moving traffic. Highway-speed passing maneuvers are stress-free, though EV-Drive and Eco modes put a real damper on performance.

Prius has a nose-heavy handling balance and a numb, disassociated feel to its electric steering. Both are drawbacks to competent cornering; even straight-line tracking seems compromised by the steering’s artificiality. Engine start-stop is unobtrusive, ride quality is good, and noise well-muffled. Burnishing the point that this is no ordinary car is the unorthodox view through the radically raked windshield and over the long dashboard top. To the rear, the hatchback’s combination of angled and vertical glass panels proves obstructing.
SAFETY
The Prius received top scores of Good in the Insurance Institute for Highway Safetys front- , side- and rear-impact crash tests. Models manufactured after December 2010 also scored Good in roof-strength tests, a measure of rollover protection. It also received the National Highway Traffic Safety Administrations top score of five stars overall.

Standard safety equipment includes antilock four-wheel disc brakes and an electronic stability system with traction control. The Four and Five trim levels are eligible for Safety Connect with Mayday, Toyotas version of OnStar, which can contact authorities in the event of a collision or other emergency. The Five trim offers an optional collision-warning system and lane departure warning.

Toyota Auris Touring Sports

Toyota Auris Touring Sports

The Toyota Auris Touring Sports we saw a few months ago in these pages, when we talk about his design studio "black" . But now it is available in Spain and a first in the market, this is the first full hybrid wagon full hybrid C-segment .

The new Toyota vehicle from the base of the Toyota Auris but now has greater capacity and functionality without thereby have lost none of dynamic characteristics that stand out in the five-door version. Let all its details and features.

Toyota Auris Touring Sports, leading luggage

Toyota Auris Touring Sports 1

The new Toyota Auris Sports Touring retains the same wheelbase as the five-door brother, but is increased 2,600 mm in 285 mm length. This translates into a cargo volume increased in the trunk, namely 530 liters which can be up to 1658 liters with the seats folded.

And whats more surprising: the possibility of introducing objects over two meters long and the total length in this configuration (all seats can be folded 60:40) is 2,047 mm.

2012 Toyota Prius C

The Toyota Prius is undoubtedly the poster child of hybrid vehicles. While it wasnt the first hybrid sold in America, it is the most popular and recognizable among the green car segment. Likely bolstering this trend will be the 2012 Toyota Prius C. The "C" stands for city, as this smaller and lighter Prius is touted by Toyota as "an urban-friendly vehicle with an engaging driving experience [and] hatchback utility." While we generally disregard manufacturer positioning statements like these as marketing speak, its actually a pretty apt description.
Okay, Ill admit it -- I was pretty skeptical when I heard Toyota was planning to parlay the Prius into an entire family of cars. Then the Prius v came out, offering SUV-like space with Prius-like fuel economy, and I was half convinced. Now that Ive driven the new Prius c -- the baby Prius, if you will -- consider me won over.

With a more familiar, traditional small-car profile and package, yet the same best-in-class 50-mpg figure (actually 53 mpg city, 46 highway)—matched with a base price of just $19,710—the Prius C should attract a wider swath of value-conscious motorists.

As the third (and smallest) unique body style in the Prius family, the Prius C is about 157 inches long and 67 inches wide. Its closer in size to the Toyota Yaris Liftback than to the Toyota Matrix—meaning its a true subcompact, and you get all the maneuverability and parking advantages. Matched with that more ordinary five-door profile is a smooth, low front end and drawn-back headlamps that closely resemble those used in the rest of the Prius lineup. Meanwhile, the new Prius C doesnt look all that much different than Toyotas somewhat less expensive Yaris, in profile and from some angles. The look is somewhat slab-sided by todays standard, but there is an upkick just in front of the rear wheels. In back, the look is typical for the class, with vertical taillamps and a spoiler smoothing out aerodynamics at the rear of the roofline. Inside, the 2012 Toyota Prius C has an all-new dashboard that draws its centrally mounted Multi Information Display at the base of the windshield from the larger Prius, and some of its switches and minor controls from the Yaris.

The 2012 Toyota Prius C represents the fourth model in the family, joining the conventional Prius (now referred to as the liftback), the Prius Plug-in Hybrid and the larger Prius V. Compared to the Prius liftback, the new Prius C measures about 19 inches shorter lengthwise and 2 inches shorter in height and width, making it slightly bigger than the subcompact Toyota Yaris. Its also more than 500 pounds lighter, which is particularly advantageous for fuel economy and handling.
The Prius C is smaller and lighter, so its powertrain is downsized to match. Theres a 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine, making 73 horsepower, and the automakers Hybrid Synergy Drive includes a smaller motor system and 0.9-kWh battery pack—with the system altogether making 99 hp. Acceleration is about on par with other eco-minded small cars. Serving as a reminder that performance is definitely not the priority, the Prius C offers an Eco mode, which reduces power output and has different c
limate-control settings, as well as an EV mode, for going up to a half mile on electricity only, but theres no Power or Sport mode. As for handling, the Prius C is surprisingly nimble and meneuverable, but again, dont expect the dynamics of a sport-tuned hot hatch. But the payoff is clear at the pump: In 50 miles of driving around San Diego—including freeways, two-lane roads, and stop-and-go—we saw a 51.4-mpg average.

Theres more cabin space in the Prius C than you might suspect. Front seats feel about the same as in other Prius models; in back theres no mistaking it for a mid-size car, but six-footers should be able to fit without any fuss. The nickel-metal-hydride battery pack, which is smaller than that used in the other Prius models, is packed neatly under the back seat.
Standard safety features on all 2012 Toyota Prius C models include stability control, traction control, antilock brakes (front discs, rear drums), hill start assist, front-seat side seat cushion airbags, a driver knee airbag and side curtain airbags. In Edmunds brake testing, a Prius C came to a stop from 60 mph in a better-than-average 118 feet.

Inside, the Prius C features a sleek, modern design with a mix of the familiar as well as the unconventional. Centrally located gauges are mounted high atop the dashboard, which can be a bit odd at first, but makes for easier reading. To its detriment, the cabins plastics are several steps below the materials youll find in other subcompacts like the Ford Fiesta and Hyundai Accent. The cloth seat upholstery is nothing special, but its certainly better than the optional "faux leather." It may be made from eco-friendly materials, but its probably the cheapest-feeling material weve felt covering a car seat in quite some time.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety awarded the Prius C the highest possible rating of "Good" in the frontal-offset, side and roof strength tests.
As expected, fuel economy is outstanding. Outside of a plug-in hybrid, youre not going to do better than with a Prius C. An unfortunate downside to the economy-focused mission, however, is a noticeable degradation in ride quality. Road imperfections are met with an uncharacteristic harshness and, combined with detectable amounts of wind noise, give the Prius C a budget-car feel.

2012 Toyota HiLux Pickup Truck

Toyota has blessed its European market HiLux pickup truck with a mid-life facelift for the 2012 model year. The cosmetic surgery starts with the exterior that gains a redesigned front end sporting a different grille dressed in chrome, new bonnet, headlamps and front bumper. The changes continue with the redesigned front and rear wings, a new crop of 15- and 17-inch steel and alloy wheels, plus new door mirrors.
On the inside, Toyota restyled the upper part of the dashboard and the instrument binnacle, while the company also claims to have improved the perceived quality “through the adoption of uniformly darker finishes with a greater colour consistency throughout the interior, and the addition of silver ornamentation”.
Beneath the sheetmetal, thanks to the introduction of variable nozzle turbocharging, the 2012 Hilux 2012 2WD 2.5-liter D-4D models benefit from a 24HP increase in output with the four-cylinder diesel engine now rated at 144-horses at 3,600 rpm and 343 Nm at 2000 rpm.
Toyota says that in spite of the power increase, combined cycle fuel consumption has been reduced by 1.0 lt/100 km to 7.3 lt/100 km (32.2mpg US or 38.7mpg UK) while CO2 emissions have been lowered by 26 g/km to 193 g/km.
Furthermore, the 2012MY 2WD versions are now equipped with the chassis of 4WD models, which improves vehicle ground clearance and increases towing capacity to 2.5 tons.
For the 2012MY, both the 2.5-liter D-4D and the more powerful 3.0-liter D-4D come equipped with a Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF).
Aside from the two diesel engines, European buyers of the 2012 HiLux also have a choice of three body styles, manual and automatic transmissions and two- or four-wheel drive layouts.

2012 Toyota Camry LE

Im so sorry I havent updated in several months. Not to worry I have driven many cars since those posts, just make this up to date Ill post some new ones.

Introduction: The Toyota Camry has been one of the most successful cars ever made. Over the years it sold so many examples all over the world, being the most successful in North America. It has had stumbles and wasnt a particularly good seller in Europe where it was replaced by the Avensis. The Camry had its humble beginnings in 1982 where it replaced the old Toyota Corona. This was one of Toyotas earliest front wheel drive models and was used to highlight how much interior space there is available in a compact car, its grown much larger since. The Camry actually started taking off in 1987 in the second generation model where it was a bit larger, had larger 4-cylinder engines and a V6 available. In 1992 the Camry was again reworked and once again was larger and this time due to Toyota discontinuing the Cressida, this Camry was now the flagship model until the introduction of the Avalon in 1995. Toyota has made a name for itself with the Camry by essentially prioritizing quality and reliability, as a result many Camrys from the past are still widely seen and in some cases still running as well as much younger cars. Toyota however has had a slip in their later models, the 2007 generation Camry was criticized for its lower quality and much higher number of recalls than before.

Heres the question, has Toyota made serious improvements so that the Camry is a serious contender once again? Before I drove this car, the most modern Toyota I drove before was the Corolla which was awful. The outgoing Camry which Ive been in had a very cheap and awful interior. My hope with this new Camry is that Toyota finally understand that todays competition is not going to let them take this segment for granted. In order for the Camry to retain its #1 spot it has got to be deserved, it must feel like a proper Toyota. The sort of car where it does everything well, avoiding real criticism.

Performance: I only have access to the standard 4-cylinder models so I wont be commenting on how this car does with the V6. The 4-cylinder youre given in this Camry is a 2.5L that produces 179 hp and 171 lb.ft of torque, despite being the same engine as the outgoing car its up 10 hp and 4 lbs in torque. Naturally being a Toyota it was already fuel efficient in the old car, more surprisingly however this new car is even more efficient than the old car and actually beats the Sonata despite lacking direct injection. On the road this engine is actually very quiet and very refined. Its 0-100 km/h time is roughly 7.8 seconds, thats...actually pretty good consider its not even the strongest of the field. Toyota definitely shed some weight and its paying off in acceleration and fuel economy. The bad news, no more manual transmission Camry.

My Score: 8/10 - Good engine, does everything youd expect for an economy minded engine. I always wish it were faster but hey, they did leave the option open for direct injection.

Handling: This category was where I was most worried, that the car would feel like an appliance. I hated the Corollas handling so much that I wasnt looking forward to what this car offered. Well, whatever Toyota did surprised me. It still has electric power steering but this unit was way better tuned than the one found in the Corolla. Its still somewhat light but it was heavier than I was expecting, thus this car is pretty easy to maneuver. Even better was there was some inkling of feel when taking the turn so this wasnt actually boring. Where the car however did best was the ride comfort, the hard road surfaces of Ontario roads after winter still dont bother this car. Now as youd expect from this class of car and with front wheel drive, when taking corners hard youll understeer and youll feel body roll. Its not hugely athletic but again its more than acceptable.

My Score: 7/10 - Rides well, suffers a bit dynamically but overall still pretty good.

Interior: A few changes have been made over the old car. First thing is the dash board, the dials all have a modern blue look and no longer have the green that even the outgoing Toyota had which felt 90s. The only silly thing is theres a gauge for average fuel economy...there are more important dials to have than this like oil pressure, voltage regulator and so on. The next thing is Toyota has attempted to place leather to soften much of the dash and avoid too many hard plastics. The leather is placed at the top of the dash, around the lower portion of the center console and a few other but less important places. The newest item however is Toyotas Entune system, this replaces the stereo in favor of a touch screen. Toyota has left a few knobs for the radio tuning, volume and HVAC controls. What Entune however does is allow you to connect youre phone if it has bluetooth to become hands free but also able to use your phones music library. Connection is easy, have your phones bluetooth on, tell Entune to connect and thats it, surprisingly user friendly. Entune is not as high tech as Ford MyTouch nor are the visuals as pleasant but consider the customer base of the Camry, this isnt important. The cars C-pillars are not too difficult to look out of, theres a lot of head room and its still very spacious inside including the trunk. Due to the price point its hard to complain about this new interior aside from the fact it could use even better materials. The car is even pretty well made, Camrys sold in North America are built in Georgetown, Kentucky, USA.

My Score: 9/10 - Way better than the outgoing car, Entune is easy to use, very spacious and the materials are way better than before, all I can say is they probably could go just that bit further.

Styling: Much of my initial worries of this car came down to the styling. It just hasnt changed all that much from the gone 6th gen, the shape is generally the same and a lot of the exterior features still had some the old cars cues. The good news is the fat butt look of the old one is gone. The bad news is at the rear, the tail lamp styling is awkward at best, it just doesnt fit the car that much. On the front, that grille isnt all that attractive either, the fog lamp covers are a bit gaudy. The only solution to that front is getting the SE version of this car which looks much better with its paint coloured grille, due to SEs being the best selling trim level it seems many Camry buyers agree. Not much can be done to the rear though.

My Score: 5/10 - Mostly boring, Toyota tried to liven the back but this didnt really work.

Value for money: After all is said and done, the Camry has definitely returned to the car that deserves its spot as one of the best selling cars out there. For a practical family sedan, theres not much against it. The handling is acceptable, theres enough power even in the 4-cylinder, its more fuel efficient than its competition and unlike before youre getting much more for your money this time. The only real reason not to consider the Camry is going to be down to this, if youre American the Hyundai warranty is better, you may hate the way it looks and want the new 2013 Ford Fusion, your local Toyota dealers are awful or you just want something that stands out.

My Score: 10/10 - If youre in the market for a midsize sedan, its really hard to argue against at least considering the Camry.

Overall: 39/50 - A very good choice of car, it may be a bit conservative and common but this one is attempt to cement its reputation in spite of setbacks.
